Overview of the challenge
This client operates a vast estate in the UK, which has grown significantly since they began their partnership with Mitie in 2012. An estate of this size, which supports an expanding and evolving organisation, required a dedicated and experienced team to keep everything running smoothly. Prior to partnering with Mitie, the client used a mix of specialist suppliers to operate their estate and were looking to achieve greater value for money. They were also searching for a supplier who could provide flexibility and additional project works during the large-scale redevelopment of their main headquarters.
Our approach
The client was looking for a step-change in their FM service provision while retaining a balance between managing risk and reducing cost. Mitie was chosen to provide an integrated solution as we understood their objectives, aligned with their culture and provided the balance they wanted to achieve. We now support with a breadth of services to over 150 buildings in their estate across the UK and Ireland (covering three million square feet), operating under one unified team. Services include integrated facilities management (IFM), security (including specialist intelligence support), cleaning, technical services, and energy.
Since the initial contract award, the client has undertaken a full-scale redevelopment of their headquarters. We’ve supported them through our wider capabilities (such as project management) and our space planning and move management expertise. Mitie was also responsible for the design and build of an iconic wind turbine providing green energy and supporting the client on reaching their net zero goals.
We’ve further supported these decarbonisation goals by growing our scope to include energy-related services. This involves a carbon performance contract, energy bureau services and energy compliance support.
The results
Our successful partnership has spanned 12+ years, and in that time we’ve evolved our service offering and worked collaboratively with the client to deliver a supportive and flexible approach. This has resulted in a three-year contract extension until 2026, which will deliver £1m operational efficiencies annually for the client.
In addition, we’ve been awarded a framework agreement to deliver EV charging points across their main estate.
